Earning Merit Badges
Quality merit badge instruction is one of the many features of
Camp Hahobas. Here’s how a scout goes about earning merit badges:
- Pick a merit badge that interests you. Read the requirements
and find out which program area teaches that badge. Purchase any
supplies or program tickets you will need to complete the badge.
Get a signed merit badge application (blue card) from your
Scoutmaster and fill it out.
- Go to the program area where the badge is taught during the
time period listed on the schedule. You must bring your buddy
(Scout Buddy System) and your blue card along with any supplies
or program tickets. Tell a counselor which badge you want to
earn. Your counselor will take your blue card and teach you the
merit badge subject, marking off the requirements as you go. The
instruction may involve reading and independent study, so while
we do keep copies of the merit badge booklets at each area, you
should buy yourself a copy at the Trading Post.
- When your counselor is satisfied that you have fulfilled all
the requirements for the badge, he or she will sign your blue
card and put it in the unit checkout packet. The completed blue
card will be given to your Scoutmaster at checkout. If you do
not finish the merit badge here at camp, your partial blue card
will be returned to you at the end of camp in the troop packet.
You may request that a counselor give back your blue card at any
time.
Program Areas are places in camp where a Scout can find
counselors, earn merit badges, and learn skills. We have 10
different program areas, each focused on a different subject. Read
about each area in the pages to come.
